These trainings involve planning, coordinating, and executing changes to a business’s processes, systems, or organisational structures, while minimising disruption and maximising the chances of success. Customer Case Studies
Background
North Cowichan was incorporated on June 18, 1873, and is the fifth oldest municipality in British Columbia. The Municipality of North Cowichan sits on the traditional territories of the Quw’utsun First Nation, which includes the Cowichan Tribes, the Halalt First Nation, the Lyackson First Nation, the Penelakut Tribe, and the Stz'uminus First Nation. North Cowichan also sits on the traditional, territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
North Cowichan is a community of communities, and the municipality includes Crofton, Chemainus, Maple Bay, Quamichan, Bell McKinnon, Berkey’s Corner, and South End/University Village. Each unique area has its own history and values, as well as natural and built environments that define its character.
The municipality’s aim is to provide leadership, peace, order and good government of the municipality.
Problem to solve
The Municipality of North Cowichan reached out to the Public Sector Network seeking to enhance their Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) efforts across the organization and wanting to register to the public dates of the DEIB Training PSN is offering.
During the call and email exchange, they shared various challenges they face, such as:
- Promoting inclusive communication and collaboration across diverse teams
- Ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities for all employees
- Fostering a sense of belonging and psychological safety within the organization
- Addressing unconscious bias and fostering cultural competency
- Enhancing representation and diversity in leadership roles
- Developing policies and practices that support DEIB principles
- Implementing training and development programs focused on DEIB
- Measuring and tracking progress in DEIB initiatives
This initiative aims to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment by addressing these challenges and equipping staff with the necessary skills and knowledge. By standardizing DEIB processes and improving cultural competency, The Municipality of North Cowichan is committed to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within their organization.
Result
Through continuous discussions with the team at the Municipality, PSN determined that delivering the training exclusively or in-house would provide significantly greater value.

Background
Elections Canada is the non-partisan agency responsible for administering Canadian federal elections and referendums. Elections Canada is an office of the Parliament of Canada, and reports directly to Parliament rather than to the Government of Canada.
Problem to solve
Elections Canada has always registered and joined us in our public training offering of Power BI Fundamentals and Intermediate, ever since we started to offer Trainings to the public sector in North America. Starting with groups of more than 20 every public date.
During the exchange of calls and emails, they shared various challenges they face with Power BI, such as:
- Integrating data from multiple sources into Power BI
- Creating interactive and dynamic dashboards
- Understanding and utilizing DAX functions
- Optimizing Power BI reports for performance
- Ensuring data accuracy and consistency
- Collaborating on Power BI projects within diverse teams
- Implementing security and access controls in Power BI
- Automating data refresh and report updates
- Customizing visualizations to meet specific needs
- Troubleshooting and resolving Power BI issues
This initiative aims to address these challenges and enhance the team's skills and proficiency in Power BI, ultimately improving their ability to manage and analyze data effectively.
Result
After identifying that rather than enrolling with public dates, delivering the training in house or exclusive offers more value to the team. This approach allows for tailored content, more focused interaction, and the ability to address specific challenges and needs within the organization.

In a debrief after the Power BI training, feedback from Elections Canada was extremely positive, with many staff members feeling they gained significant value from the sessions. Additionally, there is a strong desire for a follow-up training course that builds on the initial Power BI agenda conversation to continue after the summer.
