Together, board your private motor coach bound for North Yorkshire. Nestled in the heart of England and dotted with charming market towns, this area boasts breathtaking natural beauty and a rich historical tapestry. It is renowned for its stunning landscapes, including the rugged North York Moors National Park, where heather-covered hills stretch as far as the eye can see, and the Yorkshire Dales, with its picturesque valleys and limestone formations.

Arrive in Harrogate, a Victorian spa town and rural district at the heart of Yorkshire. Enjoy an orientation walk with your tour manager and time for lunch on your own.

After lunch, check in to your centrally located hotel.

Tonight, your tour kicks off with a welcome dinner at a nearby restaurant. Enjoy getting to know your fellow travelers as you preview the days ahead.

DAY 3 | Saturday, September 19

SIGHTSEEING IN GRASSINGTON | 1940s WEEKEND

Wake up to your first full day in the United Kingdom!

After breakfast this morning, take time to explore Grassington in North Yorkshire. Your visit will take place during the annual 1940's Weekend where the village transforms into wartime Britain with period costumes, live swing music, tea dances, military displays, vintage vehicles, and community-led commemorations.

This quaint village provides the perfect backdrop to novelist Herriot's All Creatures Great and Small. Be sure to visit iconic sites such as The Stripey Badger Bookshop, The Rustic Rabbit, Walker's Bakery and Love Brownies!

Later this afternoon, return to Harrogate for time to explore at your own pace. Perhaps visit Betty's Tea Room for afternoon tea or stroll through the Valley Gardens to enjoy their seasonal blooms. Book an authentic spa experience at the Turkish Baths and Health Spa, in their restored Victorian baths.

DAY 4 | Sunday, September 20

NIDDERDALE AGRICULTURAL SHOW | SKIPTON

Enjoy breakfast this morning in the hotel dining room before departing by bus for Pateley Bridge. Here, you'll have the unique opportunity to walk the grounds of the annual Nidderdale Agricultural Show, a lively celebration of Yorkshire’s farming heritage, where prize sheep, cattle, and horses share the spotlight with local crafts, hearty food, and the warm, rural spirit that echoes the world of All Creatures Great and Small.

In the afternoon, head over to Skipton, where the cobbled High Street glows in the golden light, with market stalls packing away and narrowboats bobbing gently along the canal. You will have free time to wander past the sturdy walls of Skipton Castle, or grab a pint at a cozy pub, soaking in the quiet charm of the Yorkshire Dales.

Meet the group for dinner at a local restaurant. Afterwards, return to Harrogate for a good night's rest.

DAY 5 | Monday, September 21

CASTLE HOWARD | WHITBY

Enjoy breakfast this morning in the hotel dining room

Today we will head out on a day trip to Castle Howard House and Gardens, in North Yorkshire. With its stunning architecture and picturesque surroundings, this castle has been featured in many TV and movie productions, most notably Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton. Visit the opulent interiors of the Castle, filled with fine art, furniture and antiques and enjoy time to explore the formal gardens, lakes and fountains as well as the farm shop, cafes and tea rooms.

Continue to the charming and historic seaside town of Whitby for some free time to explore independently. Perhaps stroll the harbor, climb the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey for sweeping North Sea views, or enjoy fish and chips by the pier.

Return to Harrogate this evening for dinner at your leisure.

DAY 6 | Tuesday, September 22

YORKSHIRE DALES NATIONAL PARK | BOLTON CASTLE

After breakfast, board your motorcoach and take a guided drive through James Herriot country as we head through the Yorkshire Dales National Park including the classic market town of Aysgarth, known for its waterfalls - a series of tumbling cascades on the River Ure that have long inspired visitors with their natural beauty. Continue on to Bolton Castle for a guided tour. This 14th century royal landmark, is where Mary, Queen of Scots, was once held prisoner for six months. Travel back in time and learn more about England's rich royal history.

Continue on to Hawes, a small market town in North Yorkshire. Hawes was featured in the BBC series, All Creatures Great and Small, as the Darrowby Cattle Market. Stone built villages sit amongst traditional farming landscapes of field barns, drystone walls and flower-rich hay meadows, and show how the area has been shaped over thousands of years by the people who have lived and worked here. Take time for lunch and perhaps stop at the Wensleydale Creamery for a taste of their famous crumbly cheese, beloved by Herriot’s farmers.

Pass through Askrigg, famous for its association with James Herriot, and the fictional village of Darrowby and home to the Skeldale House and King's Arms Pub - both featured in his autobiographical books including All Creatures Great and Small!

Finally, stop to take in the breathtaking Ribblehead Viaduct, with its 24 stone arches set against the wild moorland backdrop of the Three Peaks.

Return to Harrogate by way of Grassington for a group dinner at the Devonshire, (also known as the Drovers Arms), whose exterior was featured in the series.

DAY 7 | Wednesday, September 23

EXCURSION TO YORK

Enjoy breakfast this morning in the hotel dining room.

Today, journey to York, passing through gently rolling Yorkshire countryside dotted with stone farmhouses and sheep-grazed fields. Depending on your route, we might skirt the edge of Knaresborough, with its dramatic railway viaduct spanning the River Nidd, or pass the ruins of Spofforth Castle, tucked quietly among village greens. Closer to York, the scenery flattens into open farmland, with church spires and the distant outline of York Minster appearing like a beacon on the horizon.

Upon arrival, we will embark on a guided walking tour of the city. Journey through centuries of history, wandering the narrow, timber-framed lanes of the Shambles and standing beneath the soaring Gothic vaults of York Minster. Stroll along the ancient city walls for sweeping views.

The afternoon is free to wander at your own pace. Perhaps pause for tea in a cozy café, explore the Jorvik Viking Centre or the National Railway Museum.

Return to Harrogate in the late afternoon for dinner on your own.

DAY 8 | Thursday, September 24

FOUNTAINS ABBEY | THIRSK

Following breakfast, board your motor coach and pass through the historic cathedral city of Ripon en route to Fountains Abbey and Gardens. The city is known for its medieval architecture, traditional market square, and the stunning Ripon Cathedral.

Continue on to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden for a guided tour. Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best-preserved Cistercian monasteries in England. Built by devout monks in 1132, the Abbey operated for 407 years, becoming one of the wealthiest monasteries in England until its dissolution, by order of Henry VIII in 1539. The atmospheric ruins that remain offer a window into a way of life that shaped the medieval world. Take time to stroll through the lush greenery, discover tranquil water features, and immerse yourself in the serenity of this captivating historic site.

In the afternoon, head to Thirsk to visit the World of James Herriot Visitor Center. Set in the real-life home and surgery of Alf Wight, you can explore authentic rooms, period veterinary equipment, and memorabilia from both the books and TV adaptations before returning through scenic Dales and moorland countryside to Harrogate.
