DAY 1 | Tuesday, April 28

FLY TO THE UNITED KINGDOM

~ SEE UPDATED HOURLY ITINERARY LINKED ON COVER PAGE ~

Depart on an overnight flight to Edinburgh, Scotland. Please plan your travel to arrive at Edinburgh Airport no later than 11:00 AM in order to take advantage of the group bus transfer to the hotel.

Select meals, snacks, and refreshments will be served on board the flight. Enjoy reading through the great tips and travel information in your American Expedition handbook!

DAY 2 | Wednesday, April 29

WELCOME TO SCOTLAND!

Arrive at the Edinburgh Airport. Welcome to Scotland!

Your American Expeditions tour manager will greet you in the Arrivals Hall. Together, load your private motor coach and transfer to your well-located hotel.

Check-in at the Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel and enjoy time to settle-in and refresh before dinner.

Tonight, a welcome dinner of local specialties celebrates your arrival in the United Kingdom!

DAY 3 | Thursday, April 30

EXCURSION TO ST. ANDREWS | ST. ANDREWS CASTLE AND CATHEDRAL

Breakfast is served in the hotel dining room each morning.

Today, depart on an excursion north to St Andrews. Known for its championship golf course—and indeed as the home of golf, St Andrews is also home of the University of St Andrews, the third-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Explore the ruins of St Andrew’s Castle, located on a cliff-top to the north of the town. To the east are the ruins of St Andrew’s Cathedral, at one time Scotland’s largest building.

Those interested can enjoy a seaside hike along part of the Fife Coastal Path which winds for 117 miles along this coast. Stop in a village to sample the local Fish and Chips if you are so inclined.

After exploring St. Andrews, return to the hotel in Edinburgh for a good night's rest and dinner o your own.




DAY 4 | Friday, May 1

SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS | STIRLING CASTLE

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the Scottish Highlands, a breathtaking region of rugged mountains, deep glens, and shimmering lochs, offering some of the most dramatic landscapes in the UK.

Visit Stirling Castle, this magnificent castle has played a significant role in Scottish history for centuries and today remains one of the finest examples of Renaissance architecture in the country. Stirling was a strategic military key during War of Independence and was the favorite royal residence of many of the Stuart monarchs.

Afterwards, continue on to Loch Tay for a 2-person canoe excursion along the banks of the loch. Gliding across the calm, mist-topped waters of Loch Tay reveals a serene Highland landscape of ancient forests, distant Munros, and peaceful silence broken only by the sound of your paddle.

Return to the hotel in Edinburgh this evening.

DAY 5 | Saturday, May 2

EDINBURGH TO STOCKTON-ON-TEES | TEAM PRACTICE

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel dining room before checking out.

Depart Edinburgh and transfer to Stockton-on-Tees, a vibrant market town in northeast England, known for its riverside setting, rich industrial heritage, and lively arts and cultural scene.

Upon arrival, enjoy time for team practice on the water.

Afterwards, continue to the Hardwick Hall Hotel and check-in.

The rest of the night is yours to explore Stockton-on-Tees at leisure. Perhaps have dinner along the river, or wander through Trinity Green, a leafy park featuring the ruins of Holy Trinity Church. Or cap-off the night with a show at the Georgian Theatre, one of the UK's oldest.


DAY 6 | Sunday, May 3

RACE DAY IN STOCKTON ON TEES

After breakfast at the hotel, depart for a full day of paddling.

Today, enjoy a friendly competition as you race other Dragon Boat teams from around the world!

After the races, return to your hotel to refresh and get ready dinner this evening.

Tonight, dinner will be served at your hotel or nearby to complement your race schedule. Enjoy time to recount the many highlights of the race!



DAY 7 | Monday, May 4

STOCKTON ON TEES TO CHESTER | GUIDED TOUR OF YORK

This morning, after breakfast, check-out of the hotel and load your motorcoach.

Depart Stockton on Tees for Chester, a charming historic city in northwest England, famed for its nearly intact Roman city walls and unique two-tiered “Rows” of medieval shopfronts set beneath timber-framed buildings.

En route, stop in York, known for its impressive Roman and medieval walls, iconic Gothic Minster, and enchanting old streets such as The Shambles.

Enjoy a guided tour of York highlighting the medieval and gothic history of the city.

Afterwards, continue on to Chester.

Upon arrival, check-in to Hotel Indigo Chester and settle in.

Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure in Chester.

DAY 8 | Tuesday, May 5

WALKING TOUR OF CHESTER | COLLABORATIVE TEAM PRACTICE

Breakfast is served at the hotel this morning.

Afterwards, enjoy a walking tour of Chester with a local guide. See the imposing Roman city walls, the Eastgate Clock as well as hidden gems like the Rows, Chester Cathedral and Old Dee Bridge, a medieval sandstone arch bridge.

This afternoon, transfer to Liverpool and engage in a collaborative practice with the Liverpool Dragon Boat Team. Make new friends as you paddle in the UK!

This evening, return to Chester and enjoy a festive farewell dinner to cap-off the final night of our tour at a local pub or restaurant! Recount the many memories made along your journey as we toast to the joys of our trip in the United Kingdom!



DAY 9 | Wednesday, May 6

FLY HOME OR EXTEND YOUR STAY WITH A 3-NIGHT LONDON EXTENSION

After breakfast this morning, check out of the hotel and depart for the Manchester Airport and your return flight home.

Please plan your travel to depart Manchester Airport after 10:30 AM in order to take advantage of the group bus transfer to the airport.

The Joy Boat tour of the United Kingdom ends with a flight from the U.K. back to North America. Select meals, snacks, and refreshments will be served on board the flight.


~ OPTIONAL LONDON EXTENSION (3 Nights) ~

For those continuing on to London with the group, your next stop will be in you will stop in Stratford-upon-Avon, the charming market town most famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Here you will have time at leisure to enjoy a gentle stroll along the River Avon, browse the independent shops, or relax with a coffee or traditional afternoon tea. This stop offers an excellent opportunity to experience a quintessential English town.

After, continue to London and arrive at your hotel, Millennium Gloucester Hotel for check-in.

Enjoy an orientation walk with your Tour Manager to get your bearings, point out nearby cafés and conveniences, and share useful tips for getting around.

The rest of the evening is free to enjoy at your leisure.


DAY 10 | Thursday, May 7

SIGHTSEEING IN LONDON

After breakfast in the hotel dining room, meet your local guide and set out on a panoramic tour of London, taking in iconic highlights such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, St Paul’s Cathedral, and Tower Bridge, with engaging commentary bringing the city’s royal, historic, and modern landmarks to life.

Later, visit the Tower of London, one of the most fascinating and atmospheric historic sites in Britain. Behind its formidable walls lies nearly a thousand years of royal history, intrigue, and tradition. Explore at your own pace.

The remainder of the day is at leisure; sightsee, shop, catch a show in the West End or enjoy a relaxed early evening meal.

DAY 11 | Friday, May 8

DAY AT LEISURE OR OPTIONAL E-BIKE AND BOROUGH MARKET FOOD TOUR

After breakfast , today offers a choice of optional guided experiences. Guests may choose one activity, both activities or enjoy free time to explore London independently.

This morning, opt for an immersive guided visit to Borough Market (supplement), one of London’s most beloved food destinations. This experience combines a leisurely walking tour with delicious tastings and captivating stories about the market’s history and the surrounding streets, many of which have featured in film and television. It is a wonderful choice for travelers who enjoy culture through cuisine, with the added benefit of having an expert guide to navigate the busy market and introduce you to standout vendors. Please note that transportation to and from the tour is not included.

In the afternoon, consider an optional guided e-bike tour (supplement), an excellent way to experience London from a fresh perspective. The route typically includes quiet backstreets, leafy parks, and iconic landmarks, with regular stops for photos and short guided explanations. Highlights may include Battersea Park and Power Station, elegant Kensington streets, Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, a tribute stop at the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain, and classic viewpoints at Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament. Please note that the tour begins in Kensington and transportation to and from the meeting point is not included. Participants should feel confident cycling in an urban environment.

Alternatively, today offers a great opportunity to visit one of the many museums, take a gentle riverside walk, or simply relax and recharge. Your tour manager can recommend activities.

This evening, join fellow travelers for a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant—an ideal opportunity to reflect on the journey and toast your time in London.

DAY 12 | Saturday, May 9

RETURN TO NORTH AMERICA

After breakfast, transfer to London Heathrow Airport for your journey home. Please book your flight to depart after 10:30 AM.

Our first priority is each traveler’s health and safety while on tour. In order to support that goal, we encourage our travelers to be fully vaccinated prior to travel.  It is not possible to socially distance during a group tour and masking on the motorcoach will not be enforced unless local rules necessitate it.
