Paddle in Czech Republic!


Join John and Linda Dyer on this journey with fellow paddlers from across the USA for a week of fun in Prague! Meet paddlers from the Czech Republic and enjoy friendly competition on the water during the Prague Dragon Boat Festival on the Vltava River. Explore the sights of Prague, Cesky Krumlov, the Karlstejn Castle and Koneprusy Caves. Raft along the Vlatva River from Rozmberk to Cesky Krumlov. From the Charles Bridge to the ancient castles of the South Bohemian Region to the limestone quarries southwest of the city, this will be a week of camaraderie with fellow paddlers and chance to create new memories to last a lifetime!

Dragon Boat Tour

ITINERARY

DAY 1 | Monday, May 6

DEPART FOR PRAGUE

Depart on an overnight flight to Prague, Czech Republic.

Select meals, snacks, and refreshments will be served on board the flight. Enjoy reading through the great tips and travel information in your American Expeditions handbook!

DAY 2 | Tuesday, May 7

WELCOME TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC!

Welcome to Prague, the vibrant capital of the Czech Republic! Please book your flight so that you will arrive at the Prague Airport no later than 2:00pm.

Your American Expeditions tour manager will greet you in the Arrivals Hall at 2:00pm and you will depart by bus for Cesky Krumlov, a beautiful town in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic and your home for the next two nights.

On arrival, check in to your hotel Hotel Zlaty Andela and refresh before dinner.

This evening, kick-off the Joy Boat Prague 2024 tour with a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant.

Later, settle in for a good night’s rest at the hotel.

DAY 3 | Wednesday, May 8

SIGHTSEEING CESKY KRUMLOV | RAFTING ON THE VLTAVA

Following breakfast at the hotel, embark on a guided tour of this city that is situated on both banks of the Vltava River in the Bohemian Forest Foothills. Visit the Cesky Krumlov Castle, which dates back to 1240 AD. The castle stands on a steep and long rocky headland, which is lined with Vltava from the south.

There will be time for lunch and a change of gear before boarding your motorcoach and transferring to Zlatna Koruna for a rafting excursion along the Vltava river.

Rafting on the Vltava River offers an exhilarating adventure through picturesque Czech landscapes, featuring gentle currents and occasional rapids, making it a fantastic way to soak in the region's natural beauty. This scenic journey combines outdoor excitement with a taste of Czech culture, as you paddle through historic towns and enjoy stunning river views along the way.*

Return to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure in Cesky Krumlov.

*Excursion may be weather dependent.


DAY 4 | Thursday, May 9

KARLŠTEJN CASTLE | KONEPRUSY CAVES | PRAGUE

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and board your motor coach bound for Prague. En route you will visit Karlstejn Castle, a large Gothic castle founded in 1348 by King Charles IV. The castle served as a place for safekeeping the Imperial Regalia as well as the Bohemian Crown Jewels, holy relics, and other royal treasures.

You will be served lunch at a traditional Bohemian tavern en route. After, travel to Koněprusy Caves. Take time to explore this captivating underground network of limestone caverns renowned for their stunning stalactites and stalagmites formations, as well as their rich geological history which provide insight into its prehistoric past.

In the late afternoon, continue to Prague. Check in to your hotel Holiday Inn and take an orientation walk with your tour manager. Enjoy free time for dinner on your own.

DAY 5 | Friday, May 10

PRAGUE SIGHTSEEING | AFTERNOON PRACTICE

Following breakfast, enjoy a guided tour of the beautiful Prague Castle. Built in the 9th century, it is the official office of the President of the Czech Republic. According to the Guinness Book of Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world, occupying an area of almost 750,000 square feet, at about 1,870 feet in length and an average of about 430 feet wide.

Enjoy lunch on your own and prepare for a late afternoon practice with your team. Time to get ready for race day!

DAY 6 | Saturday, May 11

FESTIVAL RACE DAY

After breakfast, the Joy Boat Prague 2024 tour will continue with a transfer to the Vltava River to partake in the Prague Dragon Boat Festival, racing against other teams from the Czech Republic and neighboring countries.

After a fun day of friendly competition, enjoy dinner on your own, possibly with other festival participants, sharing traditional cuisine, delicious wine, and the camaraderie that only a Dragon Boat competition can elicit!



DAY 7 | Sunday, May 12

FINAL RACE DAY

Enjoy breakfast in the hotel dining room before heading back to the Vltava River for Day 2 of the Prague Dragon Boat Festival.

The evening is at leisure.


DAY 8 | Monday, May 13

SIGHTSEEING IN PRAGUE

After breakfast at the hotel, see Prague from the unique vantage point of a bicycle. With a local guide, you will explore the hidden sights and uncover the city's lesser-known gems by bicycle. Pedal through Prague's charming streets and alleys and along the Vltava River. Not to worry if cycling isn't for you, you may opt instead to take a boat cruise along the Vlatva.

Enjoy the afternoon free to explore Prague on your own.

Tonight, the Joy Boat Prague 2024 tour comes to an end with a Festive Farewell dinner that will be served to your group at a local restaurant. There will be ample opportunity to recount the many highlights of your wonderful trip!

DAY 9 | Tuesday, May 14

RETURN HOME OR EXTEND YOUR STAY

After breakfast this morning, check out of the hotel and depart for the Prague Airport and your return flight to North America. Select meals, snacks, and refreshments will be served on board the flight.          

Please plan on booking a return flight that leaves after 8:30am so you can take advantage of the bus transfer from our hotel in Prague to the Prague Airport.

FLIGHTS

Because Joy Boat team members come from across the United States and Canada, we ask travelers to book individual flights from the most convenient departure city. We will share with you the arrival time when the bus transfers to and from the airport in Prague will be planned so you can meet the group on arrival in Prague.

Our first priority is each traveler’s health and safety while on tour. In order to support that goal, we encourage our travelers to be fully vaccinated prior to travel.  It is not possible to socially distance during a group tour and masking on the motorcoach will not be enforced unless local rules necessitate it.
