Scholarship Guide

for the Fresh Expressions Fund

Our mission is to empower and encourage the creation of fresh expressions of education.

We stand by this mission because we believe in education as a means for transforming people's lives, especially those for whom it has been inaccessible, unaffordable, or seemingly disconnected from their day-to-day lives.

If you're an educator seeking to develop a fresh expression of education and in need of financial assistance, we'd like to help.

This scholarship guide provides an overview of our Fresh Expressions Scholarship Fund, who is eligible to apply for a scholarship, and where to apply.

Overview

Scholarship applications are evaluated based on financial need, how well an educator fits the scholarship conditions, and the remaining balance from each quarter's scholarship funds.

Please review the eligibility criteria below and apply for a scholarship if you meet at least one of these conditions:

ā€‹

1. You offer free or very low-cost courses to people who may not be able to otherwise afford it.

Example: Global Trust Partners is a non-profit that helps ministries around the world learn about biblical principles of stewardship and financial accountably within organizations. Working with people in dozens of countries around the world, GTP needed a way to offer tools and training at a low cost.

2. You moved formally in-person teaching online due to the pandemic while under financial pressure.

Example: Rainforest International School works with high school students to provide holistic education. They had to quickly move their programs online to continue working with students and Symporus provided the means to do so.

3. You use our software as an individual teacher or student in a K-12 or university classroom.

Example: Professor Renee Hobbs uses Pathwright to teach communication studies at the Harrington School of Communication and Media at the University of Rhode Island.

4. You are buildling a competency-based education program and need to pilot the program alongside traditional programs or learning management systems.

Example: Bexley Seabury Seminary Federation wanted to build a mentor-assessed approach to education but needed to continue offering their traditional programs. Symporus provided a cost-effective way to have both running at the same time.

Scholarship Q&A

What plans do scholarships apply to?

Scholarships apply to the Essentials through Complete Plans (see our Pricing page).

Are there any limitations to a Scholarship Plan?

There are two limitations:

Since video storage and streaming is expensive, we ask our scholarship accounts to use Vimeo, YouTube, and other video providers for any video instead of the built-in Pathwright video uploader.

Additionally, advanced technical features like SSO and APIs require initial and ongoing technical support and aren't included in scholarship plans.

How big of a scholarship can I expect?

You can expect anywhere between 20-30% off one of our pricing plans for one quarter. Multi-quarter scholarship plans are handled on a case-by-case basis. You won't need to re-apply for a scholarship each quarter if we offer you a multi-quarter scholarship plan.
