RACQ Capricorn Rescue is a vital, life-saving service, providing the fastest and most efficient means of rapid deployment of medical and rescue teams to major accidents, workplace incidents, inter-hospital transfers, counter disaster and search and rescue missions to the communities of Central Queensland. The Service was incorporated in December 1995 and commenced operations on 26 January 1996.
A community based, not-for-profit, registered charity, our Service provides a world class, dedicated aerial search and rescue with full aeromedical and counter disaster capabilities to service the Central Queensland region. Encompassing an area of over 350,000km2 we keep a community of more than 300,000 people safe. Due to its vertical rescue capabilities, our aircrafts are able to reach and rescue individuals in the most hostile and dangerous environs that conventional methods cannot achieve. All rescue services are provided free of charge to the residents of Queensland.
Demand for our Service continues to grow and now averages 1.3 tasks per day, comprising of primary attendance at accident scenes and workplaces as well as search and rescue activities. We also attend to the retrieval of critical patients from outlying hospitals. This vital Service operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
We work closely with other medical and aeromedical services to provide a turn-key solution to emergency medical challenges faced when working in remote areas. In addition to emergency transportation of patients we ensure that a first class medical service is delivered to the patient. From our state-of-the-art facility in Rockhampton, we have a flight time of 19 minutes to Great Keppel Island, 42 minutes to Gladstone and coupled with direct access to the Rockhampton Base and Gladstone Hospital helipad, we provide timely response to critical care needs.
Since 1996 our dedicated team has provided this service to the CQ region for free. With our annual operating costs projected in the vicinity of $8.2 million, we rely on 50% of this through valuable partnerships, funding, events and donations from within the communities we service. The generosity and continued growth of these valuable partnerships and sponsorships are as vital to RACQ Capricorn Rescue as our Service is to our community.

Our region covers a total area of 350,000km2 and looks after almost 300,000 residents. We have two aircraft, the second ready for tasking in times of natural disasters. We respond to primaries on roads, stations, mines, gas works industry and support with tasking by QPS or QFRS. The people of Central Queensland rely on us 24/7.
Our service covers the below areas in Central Queensland:
North to St Lawrence
West to Alpha
East off the Capricorn Coast – approximately 110 nautical miles
South to Agnes Water and Gladstone
On occasion, the RACQ Capricorn Rescue will also travel to other areas such as Barcaldine, Bundaberg, Mackay, North Burnett and the Whitsundays.
When an accident occurs and lives are at risk, our crew are there. The speed of response and capability to swiftly rescue and transport a patient to hospital are vital. Our crew are a team with considerable depth and breadth of knowledge, expertise and commitment, coupled with the most up-to-date fleet and equipment, and are unrivalled in providing this critical and vital community service, with an unwavering focus on safe and efficient operations.
Our emergency medical aircraft act as mobile intensive care units with a reaction and mobility capacity second to none, enabling them to reach inaccessible locations or deliver complex rescues in record time. Our rescue helicopter is able to travel quickly and safely to attend road traffic accidents and other rescues, or provide emergency transport between hospitals. With an average medical helicopter response time of eight minutes, our crew are capable, agile and ready.
By reducing the response time, we not only save lives, but minimise the long-term effects of injuries. To help us offer this unrivalled level of expertise, the aircraft are equipped with the necessary medical equipment to stabilise the patient during flight.
Along with the flight crew, our medical team play a crucial role in patient safety. They are able to provide initial care at the site of the accident. care for the patient during the transfer and brief doctors.

Community Sponsorship Opportunities
Rescue 300
The Service offers a unique opportunity for individuals and organisations within the RACQ Capricorn Rescue community to support the Service by becoming a Rescue 300 member.
Rescue 300 members will donate $1000 annually (memberships valid July - June; pro rata if applicable), helping to support our community's state of the art aeromedical and rescue service. Your donation is tax deductible and GST exempt. A membership renewal will be sent out annually during May.

Capricorn Rescue Ball 2020.
RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service will present the Capricorn Rescue Ball - to over 400 guests on Friday the 14th August 2020.
The biennial Capricorn Rescue Ball is our largest fundraiser, contributing significant funds to ensure that our helicopters and rescue crew continue saving lives throughout our great region. The evening includes pre-dinner drinks and canapes with our helicopter and crew and a seated three course dinner, drinks, patient stories and live entertainment.
