Leading Performance Series
A 4-part training series for leaders seeking practical Performance Management skills and confidence
Managing employee performance is one of the most important, and often most challenging responsibilities of leadership. This practical four-part series provides leaders with the skills, confidence and tools to effectively address performance concerns, support employee development, and foster a culture of accountability and high performance.
Delivered online through four interactive two-hour sessions across the year, participants can attend individual sessions or complete the full series to build a comprehensive performance management skillset. Each session is facilitated by experienced HR and Industrial Relations professionals who bring practical workplace expertise, real-life case studies and actionable strategies that can be implemented immediately to improve team and organisational performance.
Session 1: Managing Underperformance – Early Intervention Tactics |
Learn how to identify and address performance concerns before they escalate into more complex issues. This session focuses on building confidence in having early, constructive conversations that support performance improvement. Participants will learn how to: - Recognise the common causes of underperformance - Hold effective feedback and coaching conversations - Address issues early and document discussions appropriately - Manage defensiveness and difficult responses - Create practical performance improvement plans |
Session 2: Managing Underperformance – Formal Performance Management & Minimising Risk |

This session provides practical guidance on balancing employee support with organisational accountability. Participants will learn how to: - Identify when formal performance management is required - Apply principles of procedural fairness and natural justice - Conduct formal performance conversations with confidence - Develop legally sound Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) - Reduce the risk of unfair dismissal and other employee relations claims |
Session 3: Driving Performance – Effective Performance Development & Reviews |
Performance management is not just about addressing issues—it's also about helping employees perform at their best. This session focuses on creating clarity, setting meaningful goals and using performance reviews as a tool for development and growth. Participants will learn how to: - Set clear performance expectations and goals - Align individual objectives with organisational priorities - Conduct meaningful performance review discussions - Move beyond annual reviews through regular performance conversations - Support employee growth through development planning |
Session 4: Driving Performance – Building & Sustaining a High-Performance Culture |
High-performing teams don't happen by chance. This session explores the leadership behaviours, systems and practices that help create a culture where accountability, motivation and strong performance become the norm. Participants will learn how to: - Build accountability within teams - Increase employee engagement and motivation - Recognise and reinforce desired behaviours - Manage different levels of performance effectively - Create practical action plans to strengthen team performance and culture |
