Essential Information
Please note that the times for all events are set as the Central European Time zone.
How to join us?
Different events will be hosted on different platforms. Please follow the links assigned to each event in the list below. Zoom and Wonder.me are the platforms we'll use during this week.
ZOOM
If you are participating in an event hosted in Zoom, you will first have to open an account; please make sure you do this in advance as there are still some steps to be completed before joining a session.
WONDER
This is a free platform that will be used for the Networking Event. It works on the browser, so you don't need to download any software. Supported browsers are Chrome or Firefox (Safari does not work).
Please watch this short 8-minute video beforehand so that you can find your way around in Wonder more easily:
When you enter the room, you will be asked an icebreaker question. All other participants can read your answer afterward, which makes networking easier.
In summary: all you need is a working webcam, a microphone, a stable internet connection, and a desire to meet like-minded people! - ah yes, and like in many online meeting browsers, please stop all firewall apps from acting on this site and ideally clear all your browser's cookies.
Registration:
You will find the registration link for each event above; please get your place as there might be limited spaces for some of them.

ISES and GWNet - Networking Event
By Arabella Liehr and Christine Lins
This is a very unique opportunity! Meet and chat in small groups with the crème de la crème of the PV world. Our Group Leaders list, which consists of very special people, speaks for itself. Spend time with them and other colleagues in a casual and sociable online setting.
Apart from bringing you the opportunity to socialize with incredible people, we also dedicate a room to ISES and GWNet in this event because we believe in the power of connecting people in the PV sector. We respect the work these two organizations do.
What do you need for the event?
- Close all other video call platforms (zoom, teams, skype, etc.)
- Quiet space so you can listen to the conversations
- keep your camera on as it is as important to hear each other as it is to see each other.
Your Name: when you access the room, please write the following three words:
- 1.First Name - example: Hans
- 2.Organisation - example: ISE
- 3.Favourite Activity (hobby) - example: Poetry

Agrivoltaics - Interactive Workshop
by David Jung
Research Engineer in Innovative PV Concepts for the Agricultural Sector at the Fraunhofer Chile Research (FCR) - Center for Solar Energy Technologies (CSET). He is currently running several field projects near Santiago de Chile.
Amidst the 'hype' that Agrivoltaics are creating in the energy and agricultural industries, we have the opportunity to host David Jung to share his expertise in the up-and-coming Agrivoltaics theme. This interactive workshop will make you not only listen but you will also learn about real processes used in this area, as well as participating in some exercises.
Life-Work Balance - Workshop
by Dr. Djahane Banoo.
Dr. Djahane Banoo is a coach and trainer on Design Thinking, Positive Psychology and Sociology and Managing Director of the Graduate School for Environment, Society and Global Change at the University of Freiburg, Germany. To learn more about her, please visit her website: www.align-edu.com
All participants should have the following on hand for the Life-Work Balance workshop:
- 1.Paper (A3 and A4)
- 2.Coloring pencils and/or markers
- 3.Sharpie (thick marker)
Fast-fast-paced, energetic, and playful, this workshop by Dr. Djahane Banoo of which she says: "participants will gain a new perspective on work-life balance. Participants will be guided through self-reflection exercises that will help them assess where they are right now and where they need to make adjustments. We will spend time looking at the specific challenges of maintaining work-life balance during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Photovoltaic System Monitoring
by Mohammadreza Aghaei
Mohammadreza Aghaei holds a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Politecnico di Milano. He has researched Photovoltaics in various leading research institutes and universities like the University of Freiburg, Fraunhofer ISE, Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB), and Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).
In this workshop, the students learn about the principles, types of failures, failures analysis, monitoring techniques, challenges, standards, and reliability assessment of PV systems. Furthermore, the novel monitoring methods for PV systems will be discussed. In the workshop, numerous examples of PV monitoring will be presented from lab and field experience.
Philipp's Lounge
with you all
Philipp Bucher is our Program Coordinator. He leads SEE's team, guides SEE's students, and makes sure we get the best professors and lecturers in the program. He is your first contact when you enroll in the masters and the last one to say goodbye. Philipp is a mentor and friend to have.
This is an online version of our social space for you to catch up with Philipp and maybe even other students, professors, and alumni. Just drop by; no appointment needed. Get a nice drink and chat away. Bring your questions and make the best out of this opportunity to talk to Philipp and other participants.
Advanced Solar Cell Processing Seminar Presentations
In this seminar, new solar cell production techniques that originate from microsystems engineering and nanoscience will be introduced. The processes introduced in this course are likely to concern PV engineers in this and following decade.

Team
The Solar Energy Engineering program, initiated in 2010, is the result of cooperation between the University of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, ISE. The teaching staff – including the tutors – and the directorate are composed of members of both institutions.
For those who don't know its members well enough, we have put together a short presentation of the dedicated team involved in the management and administration of the Solar Energy Engineering program. While you will have regular contact with some of them – like Barbara Gumbert and Philipp Bucher – others will remain in the background for you.
