Job Description Analysis Tool (JDAT)

What we heard...

Your challenges

  • As part of your D&I strategy, the Talent Acquisition team is looking for technology that can help attract a richer, more diverse set of candidates into the talent pipeline, and is particularly interested in Applied's Job Description Analysis tool (JDAT).

How we can help

  • We are specialists in the removal of bias from recruitment processes, using world-leading behavioural science methodologies to improve the hiring process - from how jobs are advertised, to candidate selection, to analytics.
  • As a standalone module of our platform, Applied offers this JDAT that highlights and offers alternatives to potentially problematic words and phrases within text, including:
    • Gendered language (suggesting alternative gender neutral synonyms)
    • Emphasis on experience or educational levels
    • Onerous and lengthy requirements
    • Overused corporate buzzwords
    • Undefined acronyms
    • Reading burden
    • Word count
  • The JDAT is a highly intuitive online tool which runs in a Web browser.
  • Users obtain real-time analytics on their job descriptions. They can simply paste in text, watch as scores compute, and then edit directly in the tool to improve the scores, leading to more inclusive and better converting job ads.
  • As a result of using the tool, our existing customers typically see a 10-15% increase in overall applicant conversions and a 3-8% (percent points) swing towards female candidates.

When can we start

  • User access is typically granted within 24 hours.
  • There is no on-site software installation for this tool. It is offered as an online SaaS tool, best viewed in Chrome.

Job Description Analysis Tool (JDAT)

How it works...

The Job Description Analysis Tool searches for potentially problematic phrases within your job description, highlighting these words and suggesting alternatives when appropriate. Each job description receives two scores: Inclusion and Conversion. These scores are an amalgamation of 8 research-backed metrics, as described below:

Inclusion score

  • Gender coded words - Detection of words shown to unconsciously represent gender roles. Provision of suggested gender neutral synonyms to replace these words.
  • Inhibiting fresh talent - Highlighting the overuse of experience, rather than skills.
  • Must haves - Flagging long lists of requirements which may deter great candidates (and women in particular).
  • Over-emphasis on education - Highlighting educational requirements when they may not be necessary.

Conversion score

  • Reading burden - Analysing how dense the writing is. Recommending that simpler is better.
  • Buzzword bingo - Detecting overused corporate terms that sound jaded.
  • Acronyms - Highlighting acronyms which can be confusing to outsiders.
  • Word count - Guiding an appropriate length of job ad.

The Job Description tool can be edited in the tool live, improving the score as you address each of the highlighted words or phrases.
