Finger Limes are a unique citrus fruit native to Australia. They look like long skinny limes, but crack them open and you’ll find a treasure trove of sweet-tart fruit “pearls” or “citrus caviar” inside.
Finger Lime Fun Facts
Cute & Colorful: Finger limes come in a variety of shades inside and out. Their skin can be bright green, purple, or even brown, while their inner pearls shade from pale yellow to vibrant pink.
Finger Food: Finger limes are long, skinny fruits about the size and shape of a pinky. But they pack a lot of flavor and nutrition into that small package!
Zesty & Bright: To eat a finger lime, crack it open and squeeze out the pearls inside to snack on. Farmer Justin Warren describes their flavor as “a lemony-limey-grapefruity burst” that explodes in your mouth when you bite down.
A Long Season of Flavor: California farmers typically harvest finger limes from June through December, but they store well through the winter.
Meet a Finger Lime Farmer: Shanley Farms
Jim Shanley started farming in 1998 with a plot of avocados in Morro Bay, California. He was the first farmer in the country to plant and sell finger limes! Today, his daughter Megan Shanley Warren and her husband Justin Warren run the farm. They grow unique fruits like finger limes, avocados, passion fruit, and more at two sites—one in Morro Bay and one in Visalia.
