Asian pears are a cousin of the common pear and are round, like an apple. their skin may be golden, green, or brown.
May also be called apple pears, Japanese pears, sand pears, Nashi pears, or Chinese pears.
Common varieties include: Hosui, Kosui, 20th Century, Chojuro, and Shinko.
In California, they are harvested from late July until early October.
Crisp and juicy, Asian pears are picked ripe and ready to eat right away.

Pandora Thomas is a teacher, speaker, farmer, and caregiver to her mother. In March of 2021, she founded EARTHseed farm & Permaculture Center in Sebastopol, CA, the only Black-led farm in Sonoma County. EARTHseed is a non-profit agricultural organization that offers Black and Latino people an opportunity to connect to the roots of Afro-Indigenous earth wisdom. With the permission and blessings of Graton Rancheria Tribe, the farm is operated and rooted in AfroIndigenous permaculture principles, and built on the long legacy of earth wisdom traditions of people of African descent. Permaculture is a relationship-based ecological design system embedded in indigenous wisdom that elevates ecosystem health while meeting human needs.
