Gratitude from CEO Laura Toller Gardner

Hello dear friends. Pets In Need is, at its heart, a place where compassion and community come together to transform the lives of animals. This year, as we celebrate our 60th anniversary, we honor the extraordinary spirit that continues to inspire and guide our work.
I first think of the adopters who opened their homes and hearts to 1,313 animals last year. I think of our staff, who bring daily compassion and creativity to everything they do, and the volunteers who contributed 31,914 hours walking dogs, socializing cats, fostering pets, and supporting our team. I think of our Board of Directors and community partners, who help guide our work and extend our impact. And I think of you—our donors—whose generosity makes every part of this mission possible. Together, we have built a community that is creating a better world for animals and the people who love them. With your partnership, we are able to say yes to animals who have no other hope.
Every day, we meet families who want the very best for their pets but sometimes need a little help along the way. Thanks to your support, our Pet Pantry, Low-Cost Vaccine Clinics, and Spay & Neuter Clinics continue to provide that helping hand. This year, we also expanded access to affordable veterinary care through our new Community Veterinary Clinic, keeping beloved pets in homes where they belong and can thrive.
With your help, Pets In Need saved 97% of the animals in our care last year, including many of the most challenging cases. We remain committed to saying yes to animals who need us most, and to sharing innovative approaches—like our pioneering Goldfield Good Dog Club—that can benefit shelters everywhere.
As we celebrate 60 years together, I am profoundly thankful for your partnership. With you by our side, we look forward to the next 60 years with enthusiasm, hope, and confidence.
With gratitude,

Truffles
Goldfield Good Dog Club
Truffles came through Pets In Need’s doors at just three months old. With her floppy ears, boundless energy, and endearing personality, she very quickly captured hearts and found a home. Puppies are irresistible, full of sweetness and charm. But without proper socialization, even the most lovable pup can struggle as they grow.
Like many cattle dog mixes, Truffles learned about the world with her mouth. Her playful nipping soon became overwhelming for her first family, who had young children, and they made the heartbreaking decision to return her. Though adopted again, her new family also realized her growing anxiety was more than they could manage, and Truffles was returned once more.
Back at Pets In Need, staff were determined to help her, but by now her fear was deep. She could barely be touched, and even walking her required special handling. For many shelters, this would have been the end of the road. But thanks to generous, visionary giving by Burton and Maud Goldfield, Truffles was given a lifeline through our pioneering program, the Goldfield Good Dog Club.

Penelope
Community Veterinary Clinic
When Aimee noticed a friendly stray cat near her office, she couldn’t ignore it. She had the kitty scanned, only to learn there was no microchip. With an older cat already at home, Aimee worried this newcomer was also a senior who might need care she couldn’t afford on her own.
Her search for affordable options led her to Pets In Need’s Community Veterinary Clinic (CVC), now marking its first anniversary providing accessible, high-quality care for local pets and their families. The CVC offers wellness exams, routine vaccinations, diagnostics, microchipping, parasite prevention, and compassionate guidance, helping more people keep their pets healthy and at home.
Thanks to the CVC, the stray, now named Penelope, received a full exam, vaccines, and bloodwork, all affordably priced. Aside from a few age-related issues, she was healthy and ready for a new start. Today, Penelope spends her days lounging indoors, safe and loved with her new family.
The Goldfield Good Dog Club pairs reactive and/or fearful canines with dedicated trainers who create customized behavioral plans, sometimes supported through foster care and sometimes through more intensive board and train facilities, to give them the best chance at success. Truffles received expert guidance from Behavior Specialty Vet Dr. Sung, who worked patiently to build her confidence, and a professional dog walker who provided structured exercise and positive new experiences. Slowly, Truffles’ anxiety eased, her medication was reduced, and her sweet personality began to shine again.
Today, Truffles is thriving in a loving home that understands her unique spirit and provides the balance of structure and independence she needs.
Last year, the Goldfield Good Dog Club helped 51 dogs like Truffles receive the second chance they deserved. These are dogs who, through no fault of their own, could have been written off as “too difficult, too fearful, too destructive.” Instead, thanks to the generosity of our community, they now have the chance to heal, grow, and find homes filled with love. Additionally, every dog at Pets In Need receives the benefits of Goldfield Good Dog Club program elements in their own walking, training, and staff and volunteer engagement.
At Pets In Need, when a dog walks through our doors, they receive our very best. Whether a clumsy puppy, a rowdy teen, a scared adult, or a special senior, we are fully dedicated to their care, comfort, and success--and all of this is only possible because of loving and generous friends like you!
When animals have access to routine care, they live longer, healthier lives, and early interventions can often prevent emergencies altogether. Many pets end up in shelters simply because rising veterinary costs put even basic care out of reach. That’s why Pets In Need’s affordable clinic is so vital and in-demand.
In just its first six months of service, our once-weekly CVC served 126 patients, alongside 3,725 through our Vaccine Clinic and 641 through our Spay and Neuter Clinic. Each visit represents a pet kept healthy, a family kept whole, and a crisis prevented. We have expanded CVC service availability to meet pet family’s needs, and we will continue to do so.
By expanding access to compassionate, affordable veterinary care, people like Aimee can step up and confidently make a difference, helping animals like Penelope stay safe, loved, and out of shelters.
Thank you for the lifesaving care you make possible.
Your Impact by the Numbers!

LULU
"We love our feisty, funny little Lulu so much...Thanks again for everything you do. I brought my 89-yr-old mother to PA PIN every couple of months to look at bunnies, but we weren't sure about adopting. And then Lulu appeared! :D Thanks to you and Lulu's foster for taking care of her for a year so that she could find her home with us!"

SUSHI
"Sushi has been settling in wonderfully and has truly become a beloved part of our little family... Sushi lights up our everyday life with his sweet personality, curiosity, and cuddles. He makes us laugh constantly and brings so much joy to both his mom and me. We can’t imagine life without him.
The adoption experience with Pets In Need was extremely positive. We felt informed and encouraged every step of the way. Thank you again for the important work you do."
