A big region needs a fast response.
CapRescue is committed to being there for you on your toughest days—anytime, any day, all year round. The community’s reliance on us underscores our unwavering readiness and dedication to delivering on this promise. In turn, we rely on the support of our valued partners, whose contributions enable us to continue saving lives.
We know that you love Central Qld as much as we do. Like you, we experience its beauty, challenges and diversity every day. Our missions have taken us to remote industrial sites, rugged terrains, expansive farmlands, busy highways, maritime accidents and even the backyards of local suburbs. This diversity brings unique challenges in keeping our community safe and CapRescue remains the only viable solution for rapid response and rescue across this vast and varied region we all love.
What We Do
CapRescue serves as a critical life-saving emergency service in Central QLD, swiftly and effectively deploying medical and rescue teams to major accidents, workplace incidents and inter-facility transfers. We are also tasked with disaster response and search and rescue missions. Established in December 1995, our operations commenced in February 1996, and now protect over 300,000 individuals across an expansive area exceeding 350,000km2.
As a community-based, not-for-profit registered charity, we offer a world-class aerial search and rescue service. Our helicopters deliver comprehensive aeromedical and disaster response capabilities. Through our vertical rescue abilities, we navigate and extract individuals from hazardous environments inaccessible from the ground.
The demand for our service continues to grow, with an average of 1.4 rescues now performed daily. These rescues encompass immediate assistance at accident scenes, worksites and search and rescue missions. We also retrieve critically ill patients from remote hospitals. Our operations span 24/7, 365 days a year, at no cost to Queensland residents.
We work closely with other medical and aeromedical services to ensure a comprehensive and integrated approach to emergency medical challenges, especially in remote areas. Our state-of-the-art facility in Rockhampton is a hub for our operations, allowing us to reach various locations in minimal time. For instance, we can reach Stanwell in 5 minutes, Great Keppel Island in 16 minutes, Baralaba in 31 minutes and touchdown in Blackwater in just 41 minutes. Additionally, our direct access to the Rockhampton Hospital helipad enables us to provide a rapid response to critical care needs.
For the fiscal year 2025/26, our projected annual operating expenses amount to over $15 million, with 37% of this funding reliant on crucial partnerships, fundraising, events and community donations. The generosity and growth of these valuable partnerships are as vital to CapRescue as our service is to our community. We can’t fly without them.
There When You Need Us
The people of Central QLD place their trust in us around the clock. Equipped with two helicopters – the second on standby for natural disasters – we promptly respond to emergencies on roads, rural settings, oil and gas plants, work sites and on the water.
The expanse of our region demands a rapid response and we proudly serve the following areas:
- North to St. Lawrence
- West to Alpha
- East off the Capricorn Coast – covering approximately 110 nautical miles
- South to Miriam Vale
When circumstances require, we extend our reach to areas such as Bundaberg, Monto, Mackay, and the Whitsundays. The swiftness of our response and the capability to promptly rescue and transport a patient can be the difference between life and death.
Our emergency medical helicopters act as mobile intensive care units, delivering specialised medical care directly to the patient at the scene. Faster response times save lives and minimise the long-term effects of injuries. The average medical helicopter response time is just 13 minutes.
Working in tandem with the medical team, our flight crew assumes a pivotal role in ensuring patient safety. From initial care at the accident scene to seamless transfer and comprehensive briefings upon arrival, their contributions are paramount.
We’ve saved more than 11,000 lives. The people of Central QLD rely on us. We won’t let them down. Every life, every moment, every day.
